Surprised
Sometimes it’s hard to tap into a feeling when you haven’t felt it for so long. Surprise can be fun, exhilarating, energetic and fearful but also delightful and quiet. Funny how we often try to repress surprise, we try to anticipate when someone may jump in front of us to give us a fright, we look closely at the illusionist to try and figure out their trick, or pretend that we knew something when we didn't. All in all, we should make space for surprise as delight. This is what I want to do more of.
The drawings go in order, Days 1-5. Click on the first drawing and you can click through them all.
Day 1. Surprise as fear, which is why I don’t watch horror movies or walk through the scary houses.
Day 2: Surprise at seeing something happen right in front of you, an accident, a fight, a breakup on the street, a dog owner not cleaning up their dog’s poo and someone steps in it.
Day 3: A magician trying to woo you into their world of surprise and disbelief. When it works it’s wonderful!
Day 4: A secret is revealed that you were supposed to know, but didn’t, and must try to be cool about it even though you are ready to explode.
Day 5: Surprise is joy, in the unexpected, in the moments of animated excitement, in the beautiful small and big things that make life worth living.
This is the Draw Your FeelingsProject.
Next Feeling: Conflicted
Will you join me? This is a year long project, dedicated to connecting to our feelings and ourselves through our art. Send me your drawings, I’d love to see them!
