Shocked

Shocked, a juicy piece of gossip, bad news, good news, an accomplishment, a disaster. I don’t know why but somehow I kept thinking of shocked in a more negative way, like getting bad news or hearing something disturbing. To get myself out of this, I tried to think about color and shape, to stop being so literal. It’s amazing how easily we revert to what we know, and in this project I really try to force myself to approach things in a different way.

The drawings go in order, Days 1-5. Click on the first drawing and you can click through them all.

Day 1. The predictable surprise. This week I tried to take a minimal approach. Can I express an emotion with one color or just a couple if shapes?

Day 2: Shocked, when things are fun and weird and do things you don’t expect, sometimes in a silly way, or in a way you haven’t thought of or experienced before.

Day 3: What colors feel Shock? For me they are bright, the colors with impact. Of course these are also the colors I like so I tried to use bold color, bold shapes. I noticed that my eyebrows were raised!

Day 4: Can shocked be a line? What would that look like? I felt it needed a dialogue, shock is almost a dialogue between two people or two things, two ideas.

Day 5: I recently went to a movie where I was completely embarrassed and shocked by what I saw on the screen. Everyone else seemed totally fine with it but my eyes felt as big as my head!
